Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
This episode is a live recording from Klockriketeatern's International Shakespeare Symposium.
The history and characters of the Roman empire were fairly familiar to Shakespeare’s contemporaries. Niko Suominen – poet, scholar and translater, specialized in classics and shakespearean drama – opens up the tragedy of Julius Caesar to a modern day audience.
He also talks about why Julius Caesar is a play about double standards and mansplaining, and why we need Shakespeare's anti-heroism more than ever.
Produced by Klockriketeatern & Ida Henrikson. Sound by Kristian Ekholm. Live recording by Hannu Nummela.
